After Travel Blah’s

After an awesome trip, like the one I just went on to Costa Rica, I go through several phases and today I just feel blah.  Usually when I get home I’m tired, but pumped, then I sleep for a few days, relive my experiences with my girlfriends, and feel great about myself.  Then after a few more days after I’ve relived the trip a million times and told countless stories I start to feel “blah”, this is when I realize I need to get out and do something, so lately I’ve been starting to run and workout in my basement.  After a two week trip I usually need to drop a few pounds as I likely over drank and over ate while away, so this time around I decided to really start to push myself.

Day 1: Attempted a 30 minute run, but ended up getting in around 20 and walked the other 10.  I was a little winded, but my knees ached, as well as the rest of my body.  It was very hard to get up in the morning!

Day 2: I started 22 Minute Hard Corp, which is the newest Tony Horton dvd, my friends say he rocks and since it’s only 22 minutes I figured I can last. Well let me tell you, it was not easy.  It was around 6 moves done 3 times, with only a few breaks.  I was sweating at the end and was very happy that I finished it.

Day 3: I almost didn’t get out of bed as I was so tired, but then I thought it might be a good idea to do a little yoga, so I googled Yoga moves and found this link from Fitness Magazine which showed a whole bunch of moves for beginners.  Now I’ve done a lot of yoga in my day, but never by myself, so I used this guide to help me figure out what order to do the moves so that I can start doing Yoga each morning.  I think it will help my mental state and also help me recover from these crazy workouts.  So far I’ve dropped 1 pound!

Day 4:  I did another 22 Minute Hard Corp, this time it was the resistance one where you need to use bands, do pushups, and a lot of lunges.  I’m not sure my legs or arms will make it to the end of the week!  I do like the routine though, it’s almost like I’m back in gym class in school, but with a military angle.

Day 5: I opted for a run again to mix it up, this time I did 3 10 minute runs with a 5 minute walk in between.  I felt fantastic at the end, and it’s really helping me get rid of those blah’s.  In fact I started mentally planning for my next trip, though I still haven’t narrowed it down enough to buy tickets, but by the winter I want to have it locked in for next summer.  Maybe Africa since I’ve always wanted to go, but it’s really far and quite expensive.
